First let me start by telling everyone that we brought our two dogs over here. Fisher (rottweiler/lab mix) and Ellie (labrador retriever). I am very thankful we brought them because they have kept me company. It was hard getting them over here but we feel that it was worth it. So on with my story.....
Fisher is not adapting very well to island life. The first week we were here we were walking them down the street on the sidewalk to campus. Well - here in Dominica fenced in animals are very rare. So the cows, goats, chickens, etc. walk around as they please. So were walking the dogs - Justin has Fisher, I have Ellie - and all of a sudden there is a cow right beside the sidewalk leisurely munching on some grass. Well Fisher barked and jumped at him (he was on a leash). And then there goes the cow - chasing Justin and Fisher down the road. It's funny now but imagine watching your husband getting chased by a cow - not so funny then!! So that was the first incident.
The above picture of Fisher and his ex friend Wilber. At first Wilber would greet Fisher when he came up to the fence. Well - then one day Fisher decides to put his head through the fence and bite Wilber on top of his head. Needless to say - Wilber quit coming to greet Fisher when he walked by!!! So that was the second incident.
So last Friday afternoon I was at the pool so Justin was taking the dogs out to the bathroom. During this time Justin walked over to talk to Andrew - the maintenance man of our house and the apartments down the road. Well out pops Wilber (Andrew was walking him - this goat is like a pet). So Fisher bust out of his collar and ATTACKS Wilber!!!! Justin said it took everything he had to get that dog off of that poor goat. He said at one point he was literally wrestling with them. Eventually - somehow Justin got Fishers grip released. Yes the goat is somehow miraculously fine - just a few minor cuts. Oh - and by the way - Wilber is our Landlords goat!!! She hasnt said anything to us yet but hopefully we wont get kicked out. So that was the third and hopefully FINAL incident with the local animals!! More stories to come.....
